Course Aims
The Diploma in Telematics and Media Technology develops your competence in creating innovative products and solutions that are used in diverse industry sectors such as in infotainment, healthcare, logistics, intelligent transportations etc, where the demands of a highly mobile work-force requires timely and relevant information anytime and anywhere in order to make informed decisions. You will be part of a dynamic and innovative professional team engaging in the design, development, and integration of next generation products and solutions for helping individuals and businesses having fulfilling work and play.
This course will equip the students with the skill-sets and knowledge in the broad areas of electronics, infocomm, telematics and media technologies that are common in today’s electronic products, such as, for example, the mobile phone with navigation maps. You will also be trained to integrate all the learnt skill-sets into the design, development and deployment of systems and products for businesses and end users. To complement the core technologies, students will also learn project management skills; learn other soft-skills such as technopreneurship, creative thinking; and even learn to speak a foreign language. In their final year, students will undergo full-time attachment in relevant local companies or have opportunities to attach to overseas’ companies to gain real-life experiences and industrial exposures.
Duration: 3 academic years on a full-time basis.

Further Studies Opportunities
For students who want to further their studies upon graduation, the course curriculum has been structured to enable them to achieve advanced standing in undergraduate programmes in local and foreign universities.
Course Structure
The first year of the curriculum focuses on the development of strong electronics, infocomm and media fundamentals. Students will undertake projects that enable them to apply, develop and integrate their knowledge and skills acquired in the various modules.The second year curriculum will build upon the first year foundation with a focus on telematics hardware, and informatics & software know-how. The integration of these technologies to develop systems and products will be emphasized.In the third year, students are offered the opportunity to choose one of the two electives, the System Design Elective and the Product Design Elective. The System Design Elective develops students with the capabilities to create integrated media and telematics solutions to meet the business needs of the enterprise. The Product Design Elective will equip students with the knowledge and skills to design and develop productsboth hardware and software.
Every semester is designed with lots of opportunities for students to enhance their learning experiences through practical projects in our state-of-the-art laboratories, such as the NYP-
Microsoft Centre for Telematics and Media Technologies. Furthermore, one full semester is dedicated for students to undergo a 6-month Industrial Attachment Programme (IAP) or a 3-month full-time Project Development and a 3-month Industrial Attachment Programme in relevant companies. The attachment programme could also be an Overseas Industrial Placement Programme.
